The Theragnostic Imaging research group.
The workshop is arranged by the Theragnostic Imaging research group at Oslo University Hospital. Founded in 2017 by Caroline Stokke, the group works on molecular imaging, biodistribution, dosimetry and treatment planning for radionuclide therapies.
Its current work includes imaging and modelling approaches for developing alpha therapies, dosimetry in clinical trials, prostate-specific membrane antigen–targeted radioligands, and the RNTreg registry for radionuclide therapy. Those interests are the reason this workshop exists, and they shape what it covers.
Alpha therapy began here
Oslo is where the first approved alpha therapy was developed.
Radium-223 dichloride, later approved as Xofigo, was developed in Oslo in the 1990s by Roy Larsen and Øyvind Bruland at the Norwegian Radium Hospital — today part of Oslo University Hospital, the same trust that hosts this workshop.
In 2013 it became the first alpha-emitting therapy approved for clinical use, after the ALSYMPCA trial showed it extended survival in men with castration-resistant prostate cancer and bone metastases. Much of what the field now takes for granted about dosimetry and imaging for alpha emitters grew out of that work.
